Safer art for artists with Chemical Sensitivities
![]()
The fact that you are reading this article and the ABC of safer art that follows, connects us – so let me introduce myself. I am a female painter with MCS from Germany, whose intention it is to give fellowmen and fellow-women a chance to stay what they have been: active artists. For this reason, I founded the international network ARTISTS WITH MCS in 2001 as an informational resource and support group. We re-named the network CREATIVE CANARIES in 2006 because we felt: what defines us is creativity, not an illness! With the years, we had changing members and explored the possibilities and impossibilities of being artists in a world that is filled with chemicals. It is not always easy to find back to your former creativity. You may be forced to accept many adjustments. But there is hope: first of all, creativity does not depend on any form. It depends solely on YOU! Secondly, it will come to you, no matter if you are sick or not. It comes to the rich and to the poor, to the desperate and to the fortunate ones. You only need to call it! Thirdly: your creativity and inspirati-on can be put into any form you can accept. And even if you suffer from brain-fog and constant aches in your body: it is the mind that is the source of creativity. We are not our body. We are IN the body! This should be remembered!
